Jörg-Peter Elbers and Achim Autenrieth deliver practical guide to SDN at OFC 2025

Short course will bridge the gap between architectural software-defined networking concepts and real-life implementations

  • Speakers: Jörg-Peter Elbers, SVP of advanced technology at Adtran; Achim Autenrieth, senior director of advanced technology at Adtran
  • Topics: Optical transport SDN: architectures, applications and actual implementations
  • When: Sunday, March 30, 8:30 a.m. PT
  • Where: OFC, Moscone Center, San Francisco, California, USA https://www.ofcconference.org/en-us/home/

Software-defined networking (SDN) introduces centralized control and programmability to traditionally rigid, hardware-centric optical transport layers. However, successful implementation involves overcoming challenges related to interoperability, integration and other factors. Transport SDN (T-SDN) helps tackle the technical hurdles of transporting traffic across diverse and often complex optical layers.

In this short course, Achim Autenrieth and Jörg-Peter Elbers will explain how T-SDN ensures service providers and data center operators can realize the benefits of SDN. They will also give a live demonstration of a T-SDN application, showing how open-source software and open APIs can be used to create an intent-based service management framework for a disaggregated packet-optical transport network.
