Casey Elliott tackles remote-route challenges with 24/7 in‑service fiber monitoring at ATA Broadband Showcase

Session will explore how proactive fiber assurance cuts MTTR, boosts security and streamlines PON operations on long, weather exposed routes

  • Speakers: Casey Elliott, senior solutions engineer at Adtran
  • Topics: Protecting your network with 24/7 in-service fiber monitoring

  • When: Wednesday, October 29, 10 a.m. AKDT
  • Where: Alaska Telecom Association 2025 Broadband Showcase, Sheraton Anchorage Hotel, Anchorage, Alaska, USA https://www.alaskatel.org/2025-broadband-showcase

Alaska’s networks stretch across vast, remote corridors where harsh conditions and limited access make outages costly and time‑critical. When a fault occurs, operators need instant clarity on whether the issue lies in the fiber or electronics, plus precise location data to dispatch the right crew without guesswork. Continuous fiber monitoring addresses these challenges by providing real‑time health checks, pinpointing breaks or degradations, and reducing unnecessary truck rolls and repair times.

In this session, Casey Elliott will explain how Adtran’s ALM platform delivers non‑intrusive, 24/7 fiber assurance using a 1650nm test signal that runs alongside live traffic. He’ll show how ALM detects and localizes faults or intrusion attempts in seconds, integrates with Mosaic Fiber Director and GIS for map‑based alarms, and extends visibility through splitters to the ONT with deep PON assurance. Attendees will also learn about options for rugged outdoor deployments and how the same system can monitor cabinet doors, manholes and water ingress for unified physical security.
