Vincent Sleiffer explores cost-effective optical sensing for access networks at OFC 2025

Session will examine scalable fiber sensing solutions tailored for access networks

  • Speakers: Vincent Sleiffer, director of product line management at Adtran; Rene Bonk, lead technology strategist in the Fixed Networks division at Nokia; Philippe Chanclou, team manager of the Fixed Access Networks unit at Orange; Volker Jungnickel, Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute; Chathurika Ranaweera, associate head of school (strategy and engagement) at Deakin University; Marco Ruffini, professor at Trinity College Dublin; Tony Zengyan, Huawei
  • Topics: Cost-effective optical sensing for access network

Fiber networks are increasingly being used for more than just broadband delivery. Optical sensing is unlocking new capabilities, from real-time environmental monitoring to advanced security applications. However, while these techniques have been demonstrated in core and metro networks, deploying them in cost-sensitive access environments presents unique challenges.

In this session, Vincent Sleiffer will explore the potential of optical sensing for access networks, discussing different technical approaches, cost considerations and deployment trade-offs. The discussion will focus on adapting these techniques to more scalable, cost-effective implementations suited for service providers operating fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks.
