It may seem like 50G PON is many years away, but the recent introduction of multigigabit services for both residential and business users on PON platforms suggests the need to invest in higher-capacity technology could arise as soon as 2027. The increased bandwidth of 50G PON offers a range of benefits, including enabling true 10GbE+ connections for businesses, improved backhaul for small cells and capacity for more multigigabit broadband services – all while coexisting with current GPON and XGS-PON technologies providing today’s residential services.
In this session, Eric Joyce will moderate a panel of industry experts as they explore the potential of 50G PON in the UK’s fiber networks. The discussion will focus on how this advanced technology can be seamlessly integrated with existing GPON and XGS-PON solutions to support multigigabit services. Additionally, the panel will address the key drivers behind the adoption of 50G PON and identify the initial applications expected to benefit from this technology.
