Carrier Ethernet

Ethernet is rapidly becoming the global technology choice for constructing Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) or Metro Ethernet Networks (MEN). However, existing copper access networks do not facilitate an end-to-end high-bandwidth connection, creating a bottleneck. This bottleneck is the first mile of access (most often a TDM-based copper circuit) from the customer's business premises to their tele/datacom service provider's network.

ADTRAN affords these service providers the ability to remove this ethernet bottleneck through the utilization of improved data transmission standards. These advanced standards include ITU-T G.998.2 and IEEE 802.3ah, known as Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) which defines a universal way to effectively bond together, lower bandwidth TDM circuits or dry copper loops creating a Carrier Ethernet access connection.

The ADTRAN Ethernet solution suite fully leverages these standards as well as other unique carrier-class innovations to allow service providers to deliver better services to more customers - sooner.

The ADTRAN Ethernet solution suite allows service providers to deliver Carrier Ethernet whether access facilities are on or off-network which means delivering to 100 percent of your customer base. Higher service rates are created by bonding up to eight e.SDHSL copper loops, Ethernet over DS1, E1 or DS3 TDM circuits to deliver business access and mobile backhaul services, ranging from 2Mbps to more than 135Mbps.
ADTRAN's Ethernet over Copper (EoCu) products enable service providers to extend packet-based business-class services beyond the reach of their fiber networks.
Carrier Ethernet over TDM (EoTDM) allows service providers to deliver services to any business that is serviced by TDM services today.
