T-FLASH Upgrade Guide


T-FLASH is a specialized version of Adtran's T-WATCH network management software for downloading flash memory in Adtran's TSU xx0 multiplexer products.

Computer Platform requirements: T-FLASH requires Microsoft's Windows ver. 3.1 (or later) running on a minimum of an 80386 with 4 M of memory. To determine what version of Windows is installed, select HELP and About from the Program Manager screen. T-FLASH will also need to utilize a Com port when communicating with the TSU unit.

Flash Kit Contents:


The following items are included with the Flash Kit:
T-FLASH disk
DB25 / RJ45 adapter
6ft RJ45 to RJ45 cable

Install T-FLASH:

Insert T-FLASH disk ONE into the 3.5" floppy drive (A or B) From Windows Program Manager, select Run from the FILE menu Using Browse Select drive (A or B) containing the T-FLASH disk Select and run setup.exe. A program group and program Icon is created during installation.

After Setup is complete, T-FLASH is executed as any other Windows application, by double clicking on the T-FLASH icon.

Setup unit (TSU xx0):


NOTE: In order to program the TSU's flash memory it is necessary to set a passcode. This is accomplished from the front panel of the unit with the following steps:

Set unit ID and Passcode from the unit's front panel by:

  1. Set a Passcode by selecting 3) SET PASSCODE under the UTIL menu. Enter a Passcode (i.e. 11), verify by entering the same number (i.e. 11).
    (NOTE: Multiple units can use the same Passcode)
  2. Set a unit ID (i.e. 11) by pressing ENTER and keying in the ID number on menu item 4) UNIT ID also under UTIL.
    (NOTE: All units can use the same ID )
  3. Connect Unit to Computer:
    Using the DB9/DB25 to RJ45 adapter and the RJ45 to RJ45 cable, connect a computer COM port to the "Chain IN" port on the rear of the TSU 100/600.

Connecting T-FLASH to the TSU 100/600:


  1. With T-FLASH running, under FILE select UNIT Access
  2. On Unit Access screen select Add New
  3. On Add New screen. set Unit Type (TSU 100 or 600); Com Port ; Unit ID ; Pass code and Access to Direct. Select OK
  4. On the Unit Access screen, select the unit just added and select Connect Verify that T-FLASH successfully connects to the unit.
    (A message "Failed to Connect" will appear if unsuccessful). If not, recheck cable, the Com Port selection, the Unit ID, and the Pass code.

Retrieving Configuration from Unit:


  1. Select Load Configuration From Unit under FILE.
    (Note: This will preserve the unit's programmed configuration for later restoral)

Downloading Flash:


  1. Select Flash Download Function (Lightning Bolt)
  2. Select GO (T-FLASH will automatically select the correct code to download)

Restoring Configuration:


  1. Select Send Configuration to Unit under FILE.
  2. Removing Passcode: (If no Passcode is desired)
  3. On front panel enter Passcode entered in step 4 above (i.e. 11)
  4. Follow the Set Passcode steps from 4 above except instead of entering a code, press ENTER on the NEW PASSCODE menu.

Exiting T-FLASH:


  1. Under FILE select EXIT

This completes the Flash download process. The unit is now upgraded and ready to be put back into service. As mentioned previously T-FLASH is a specialized version of T-WATCH. T-WATCH provides full configuration, monitoring , and test capabilities for a network of local and remotely installed TSU devices.
