Install A-FLASH:
Insert A-FLASH disk ONE into the 3.5" floppy drive (A or B) From Windows Program Manager, select Run from the FILE menu Using Browse Select drive (A or B) containing the A-FLASH disk Select and run setup.exe. A program group and program Icon is created during installation. After Setup is complete, A-FLASH is executed as any other Windows application, by double clicking on the A-FLASH icon.
Setup unit (Agent module):
NOTE: In order to program the Agent module's flash memory it is necessary to set the RS232 Parameters on the Agent module. This is accomplished from the front panel of the TSU unit with the following steps:
- Select 2) Config, then 7) Port Config and scroll using the up and down arrows to select the appropriate slot where the SNMP Agent module is located (ie: x.1 where "x" represents the slot where the module is installed). Once you see the SNMP Agent module displayed on the LCD, hit enter. Now, under option 5) of the Agent module, select "Flash" as the RS232 mode. At option 6), pick the rate that will be used to flash the module. At option 7), select "none" for the flow control option.
- Connect Unit to Computer: Using the DB9/DB25 to RJ45 adapter and the RJ45 to RJ45 cable, connect a computer COM port to the "RS232" port on the rear Agent module.
Connecting A-FLASH to the Agent Module:
With A-FLASH running, select the lighting bolt icon to begin connecting to the Agent module. The Access window will appear in which several parameters will need to be filled.
- The first is Comm Port, which is the port being used on the computer that will flash the module.
- Next is Comm Rate, which needs to match the RS232 rate entered in the Agent module in the previous steps. (38400 is recommended)
- Next, match the Flow Control option to the Agent card which was specified as none in previous steps. (Direct is the recommended Access Method).
- Finally, fill in the modem fields and check modem access if this flash is being done over a telephone line with a modem. (Caution: If flashing over a modem connection, there is potential for loss of connection during transmisson. If connection is lost while using this method, the SNMP Agent module's flash memory could become corrupt. If this occurs, the unit will have to be sent to Adtran for repair/return. The warranty remaining on your unit will dictate charges therein.)
Downloading Flash:
- Once the above information has been entered into the Agent Module and the computer is connected to the Agent card, press OK.
- The "Flash Download Agent Card" window will appear. Click on Go. The progress bar will display the percentage completed during the download.
- Once the Flash Download is complete, the Agent Card removes the FLASH DOWNLOAD alarm and the front panel display should read FLASH DOWNLOAD SUCCESSFUL. Press any front panel key to return to the TSU/HSU menus.
Exiting A-FLASH:
Once A-flash has completed the file download, click on Stop sign icon to exit the program.
This completes the A-Flash download process. The unit is now upgraded and ready to be put back into service.
